This month, Surrogate Family Care is proud to celebrate PRIDE!
- We’re proud to serve the LGBTQ+ elders in our community.
- We’re proud to support the LGBTQ+ caregivers in our community.
- And we’re proud to celebrate the LGBTQ+ care providers in our community.
In this podcast episode from “It’s OK to Say Gay,” hosts Femi Redwood and Anddy Egan-Thorpe talk about the reasons loneliness is so common – and often a deeper level of it too. Listen to it here.
If you need LGBTQ+-friendly resources for healthy aging or empowered caregiving, start here:
#1. SAGE USA & The National Resource Center on LGBT Aging: Services and Advocacy for GLBT Elders (SAGE) offers a range of supports and programs in NYC and across the country through their SAGENet Affiliates. The SAGE website is very comprehensive, so be sure to bookmark and share it – you’ll find excellent resources here.
#2. SAMHSA (Substance Abuse & Mental Health Services Association): Get access to national survey reports, behavioral health resources, and other federal/agency initiatives related to the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Queer, and Intersex population on this page.
#3. CenterLink: Want to find a community center that’s a safe and vibrant space for engagement, advocacy and connection? Learn more – and find a center near you – at their informative website.
#4. AARP: Finding LGBTQ+ friendly care: This section of the AARP website is a clearinghouse of information for those seeking care. Browse the resource listings here.
#5. The LGBTQ+ Caregiver Center: Dedicated to raising awareness of “the unique challenges faced by LGBTQ Caregivers and those who care for LGBTQ individuals,” this organization seeks to “empower LGBTQ Caregivers to live with pride and dignity and serve as a conduit for education, wellness, training and research.” In addition to providing information and other resources, The Center delivers training and other innovative services – such as Yoga4Caregivers – dedicated to enhancing health and wellness among LGBTQ caregivers. You can also participate in an Equality in Caregiving study or share your story on the site. Check it out here.
